Therapy for kids and teens in McKinney

Growing up today comes with more pressure than most parents remember: packed schedules, social media, school stress, and big feelings that are hard to put into words. When worry, mood swings, behavior problems or a hard change start to take over family life, therapy gives your child tools and gives you a plan.

Our McKinney office sees children and teens from McKinney, Allen, Fairview, Prosper, Frisco and Melissa. Sessions can be in person on Eldorado Parkway or online, and parents stay part of the process.

How therapy for children and teens works

For a child, the first appointment is with a parent and a senior GearingUP clinician. We learn what is happening at home and at school, what you have already tried, and what a good outcome would look like. When it helps, we recommend an assessment so everyone understands what is driving the struggle.

Therapy is matched to your child’s age. Younger children often work through play, stories and simple skills practice. Teens learn practical skills from CBT and DBT for anxiety, low mood, anger and stress. Parents get guidance too, so the skills carry over at home.

McKinney Reviews

Maggie’s consistent instruction in the DBT skills has been a big part of our daughter’s therapy journey. We are happy she is part of our team.

Yazmin is such a great skills therapist! She knows her stuff and helps me apply the skills to my life. I’m loving working with her!

Our daughter sees Ruqiya for her skills training and I have meet with her once. She is a no nonsense, easily relatable therapist who breaks down skills in a way that teens can easily understand and apply.

Maggie is excellent with teens and really understands the challenges that come with ADHD and growing up in today’s world. They’re patient, supportive, and easy to talk to, helping teens feel comfortable and heard.
