Anxiety and depression therapy in McKinney

Anxiety can feel like a mind that will not switch off. Depression can feel like the opposite: no energy, no interest, and a heavy fog over days that used to feel manageable. Many people live with both at once, and both respond well to the right therapy.

At our McKinney office on Eldorado Parkway, GearingUP therapists help teens and adults understand what keeps their worry or low mood going, then build practical skills to change it. Clients come to us from across McKinney and nearby Allen, Fairview, Frisco, Prosper and Melissa, and many choose online sessions between office visits.

Your McKinney therapists for anxiety and depression

Both of our McKinney clinicians list mood disorders, including depression and anxiety, among their areas of experience, along with panic attacks, phobias and obsessive-compulsive disorder. They are trained by Dr. Sylvia Gearing in GearingUP’s DBT, CBT and ACT programs.

How anxiety and depression therapy works at GearingUP

Your first appointment is with a senior GearingUP clinician, who learns what you are dealing with and what you want to change, then matches you with a therapist. When it helps, we start with a short assessment so treatment targets the right problem from the start.

Most anxiety and depression treatment here draws on three skills-based therapies. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you notice and test the thoughts that feed worry and hopelessness. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) teaches concrete skills for intense emotions and hard moments. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you move toward what matters to you, even while anxious thoughts are still around.

Therapy is practical. You leave sessions with skills to use at home, at school or at work, and your therapist tracks your progress with you along the way. Read more about anxiety therapy and depression therapy at GearingUP.

Maggie’s consistent instruction in the DBT skills has been a big part of our daughter’s therapy journey. We are happy she is part of our team.

Our daughter sees Ruqiya for her skills training and I have meet with her once. She is a no nonsense, easily relatable therapist who breaks down skills in a way that teens can easily understand and apply.
