Trauma and PTSD therapy in Frisco

Trauma can leave you feeling unsafe long after the danger has passed. Nightmares, flashbacks, jumpiness, avoiding places or people, or feeling cut off from yourself are all common. For children, trauma often shows up as fear, anger or changes in behavior that are hard to understand.

Our Frisco West office on Main Street helps children, teens and adults from Frisco, Little Elm, The Colony and Prosper work through trauma at a pace that feels safe, in person or online.

How trauma therapy works at GearingUP

The first step is stability. You learn skills to calm your body, handle triggers and flashbacks, and get through intense moments, drawing on DBT and other skills-based approaches. For children, parents learn how to help at home.

With those skills in place, your therapist helps you process what happened so the memories lose their hold and the beliefs trauma left behind can change. GearingUP’s trauma therapies also include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which uses guided bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories. Ask when you call which approach fits you or your child.

Frisco West Reviews

My experience with Yazmin is that she is a patient listener and a reliable teacher of skills, whether DBT or CBT.

I had the opportunity to begin DBT skills training with Blanca at Gearing Up, and even in the early stages, she made a very positive impression on me. Blanca is incredibly kind, patient, and easy to talk to. She creates a warm and supportive environment that makes learning new skills feel approachable rather than overwhelming.

I appreciated how clearly she explained concepts and how genuinely encouraging she was throughout the process. I’m grateful for the time I was able to work with her and would absolutely recommend her to anyone interested in DBT skills training.

Maggie has been great at teaching DBT skills. She gives effective explanations and examples which resonate with our daughter. We’re happy to have her as part of our team.

I really appreciate Ruqiya and the way she teaches dialectical behavioral skills. She explains things so clearly and helps me connect what I’m learning to my own life and experiences in a way I’ve never done before. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable because it’s new, but her guidance and reassurance make it easier to sit with those feelings and keep growing. I’m really thankful for her and how much she’s helped me progress.

Our daughter meets with Maggie 1x a week for her individual sessions. She (our daughter) has seen several therapists in the past and, while they have been ok, none of them have made the impact that Maggie has been able to achieve. We credit not only the DBT approach, but also Maggie’s ability to keep things that are shared to herself and not jeopardize our daughter’s trust. We’ve seen amazing progress in about 6months with our daughter gaining trust in herself and utilizing skills that were just given lip service to in the past. I would recommend Gearing UP to anyone looking for a full scope program that hits on every cylinder.
