Therapy for kids and teens in Frisco

Kids and teens do not always have the words for what is wrong. It might look like worry, tears, anger, trouble at school, or pulling away from friends and family. The right therapist helps your child understand their feelings and learn skills to handle them, and helps you know how to support them.

Our Frisco West office sees children and teens from Frisco, Little Elm, The Colony and Prosper, in person on Main Street or online.

How therapy for children and teens works

The first appointment is with a parent and a senior GearingUP clinician, who learns what is happening at home and at school and recommends next steps, which may include an assessment.

Sessions are matched to your child’s age. Children learn coping skills through play, activities and practice. Teens work on DBT and CBT skills for managing emotions, stress and relationships. Parents get regular updates and practical guidance for home.

Yes. Parents join the first appointment and receive regular check-ins and skills to use at home. For teens, we balance your involvement with the privacy they need.

Not always. Sometimes an assessment helps clarify whether anxiety, attention, learning or mood is driving the problem. Your intake clinician will recommend it only when it would help. Learn about testing.

Frisco West Reviews

My experience with Yazmin is that she is a patient listener and a reliable teacher of skills, whether DBT or CBT.

I had the opportunity to begin DBT skills training with Blanca at Gearing Up, and even in the early stages, she made a very positive impression on me. Blanca is incredibly kind, patient, and easy to talk to. She creates a warm and supportive environment that makes learning new skills feel approachable rather than overwhelming.

I appreciated how clearly she explained concepts and how genuinely encouraging she was throughout the process. I’m grateful for the time I was able to work with her and would absolutely recommend her to anyone interested in DBT skills training.

Maggie has been great at teaching DBT skills. She gives effective explanations and examples which resonate with our daughter. We’re happy to have her as part of our team.
