Postpartum Depression

New estimates from the National Institute of Health show that 10-15% of all new mothers experience postpartum depression within one year of giving birth, and up to 50% of those impacted struggle with postpartum depression for more than six months. Even women who have never experienced clinical depression can be impacted by postpartum depression due to the deep impact giving birth has on the body. A mix of hormones, neuroendocrine changes, and more can result in a deep and lasting depression that can last for months or even years. Many mothers report losing much of their early time with their new baby due to recovering mentally and physically from postpartum depression. What should be one of the happiest times of our lives instead becomes a deep, dark personal crisis.

Much like our clinical depression treatment options, GearingUp’s clinical team has the tools necessary to combat postpartum depression. Our clinical team offers highly effective Distress Tolerance and Emotion Regulation coping skills to resolve and heal postpartum depression while still bonding with your new baby. Through a combination of therapy systems such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and more, clients have been able to move past depression and reclaim their lives by using careful constructed and research proven coping skills, emotion regulation techniques, and more. Many new mothers also enjoy mindfulness practice to further enhance their sense of being grounded and enriching their deep connection with their new child.
